ROBUSTA(COLINON)

Robusta coffee, also known as Conilon in Brazil, is the second most widely produced coffee variety and plays a key role in the global coffee industry. It is valued for its strong flavor, high caffeine content, and cost efficiency, making it widely used in espresso blends and instant coffee production. 

Growing Regions in Brazil

 

Brazilian Robusta (Conilon) is mainly cultivated in:

  • Espírito Santo – The largest producer of Conilon coffee 
  • Rondônia – Rapidly growing region with increasing production 

These regions provide warm climates and lower altitudes, which are ideal for Robusta cultivation.

Flavor Profile

 

Robusta coffee has a bold and intense character:

  • Strong, full-bodied taste 
  • Higher bitterness compared to Arabica 
  • Earthy and nutty notes 
  • Higher caffeine content 
  • Thick crema when used in espresso 

Because of these properties, Robusta is commonly used to enhance strength and crema in coffee blends.

BRAZIL CONILON GREEN COFFEE DEFECTS

 The bulk defect range from 80 defects (high-quality or the best quality, specialty Robusta) to 1,500+ defects (low-grade or industrial Robusta).

* 80–150 defects -  Specialty/Premium - minimal defects, very high quality

* 151–400 defects -  High-grade/Exchange - some defects allowed, still exportable

* 401–1,000 defects -  Commercial/Standard - lower cup quality, mostly blended

•1,001–1,500+ defects -  Low-grade/Industrial - used for instant coffee or bulk blending
